What types of vehicles do active people like to drive? Seventeen pro athletes and 11 automotive jurists in San Diego took luxury and family vehicles on-road and off-road to determine the winners of several categories of vehicles.
The awards, now in their fifth year, recognize cars and trucks that are best suited to meet the demands of an active and athletic lifestyle.
Two new categories were added this year: green Active Lifestyle Vehicles, and super values priced at or below $16,000.The winners of Active Lifestyle Vehicles of the Year were the: Audi A5 (luxury on-road category); Land Rover LR3 (luxury off-road category); Ford Flex (best value on-road); Subaru Forester 2.5 XT (best value off-road); 2008 Chrysler Town & Country Ltd.(minivan); Volkswagen Rabbit (super value); and Volkswagen Jetta TDI SportWagen (green). This year, 62 cars were entered in the competition, a 30 percent increase from last year."Involving the athletes offers a great opportunity to get fresh perspectives on the various vehicles, so it becomes an impromptu focus group of an elite and active target market" said Nina Russin, jury coordinator for the Active Lifestyle Vehicle of the Year Awards. "What was interesting with the Audi A5 was how the athletes really reacted to the car's athletic performance."The awards are presented by the Active Network, which operates active.com, Gen A Media and Marketing and AAA.
